Romeo Kiwanis Helps Fund "A Beautiful Me"

Romeo Area Kiwanis and A Beautiful Me aim to help young people in the local community. With the support of donations from various community organizations, such as Romeo Area Kiwanis, A Beautiful Me offers no-cost workshops to young ladies.

The 4-part series "Real Beauty Workshop for Girls" involves fun, educational and interactive sessions for young girls from third through 12th grades, and adult female mentors. By attending these workshops, young ladies learn how society creates "ideal" images of beauty and how to engage in a healthy dialogue about self-esteem.

On Feb. 6, the Romeo Area Kiwanis Club awarded A Beautiful Me a $600 sponsorship donation during A Beautiful Me's first Level Two series. Level Two was developed by the request of the young ladies who wanted to continue on in the program after completing the original series.

"The most amazing thing is that even as a mentor, I am personally using what I learned in the workshops. It works for everyone, no matter what age," said Anna Marie of Macomb Township.

The next Level One 4-part workshop series takes place Tuesdays, March 2, 9, 16 and 23, for third- through 12th-graders, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Washington Township Municipal Building, 57900 Van Dyke, north of 26 Mile Road in Washington Township.

Registration is necessary as space is limited. For more information about the program, call Karen Palka at 604-3037 or e-mail her at karen@ABMe.us
